artist biography

Elizabeth Peyton (b. 1965) is an American painter who rose to popularity in the mid-1990s. She is a contemporary artist best known for stylised and idealised portraits of her close friends, boyfriends, pop celebrities and European monarchy. Peyton lives and works in Long Island, NY and Berlin. In 2006, Peyton was the recipient of the 14th Annual Larry Aldrich Award honouring an artist who has had a significant impact on visual culture. She was honoured with amfAR’s Award of Excellence for Artistic Contributions to the Fight Against AIDS in 2007.
