artist biography

Rirkrit Tiravanija (b. 1961) is a contemporary artist residing in New York, Berlin and Chiang Mai. His installations often take the form of stages or rooms for sharing meals, cooking, reading or playing music. Architecture or structures for living and socializing are a core element in his work. Tiravanija's work has been recognized with numerous awards and grants including a Gordon Matta Clark Foundation Award, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Competition Award (1993), National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship (1994), the Benesse by the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum, the Lucelia Artist Award from the Smithsonian American Art Museum (2003), and the Hugo Boss Prize from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (2004).

Saigon-native Tomas Vu's (b. 1963) work perpetually questions history, particularly the manner in which collective memory is constructed around historical events, such as the Vietnam War, September 11, etc. Vu received a BFA from the University of Texas and MFA from Yale University. Vu has exhibited internationally and has had numerous exhibitions in China, Japan, Italy. He is professor at Columbia University and artistic director of the Neiman Center for Print Studies. Vu lives and works in New York. "
