Over the past twenty years, Rudolf Stingel (b. 1956) has examined the nature of memory while expanding the scope and definition of painting. Central to his oeuvre is the passage of time rendered palpable, together with the expansion of the vocabulary of painting and its perception. Stingel's artistic output is prolific and visually diverse, yet meticulous and generous in its offering. His work has been exhibited at Kunsthalle Zurich, Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Palazzo delle Albere), Museum fur Moderne Kunst (Frankfurt am Main), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano, Inverleith House (Edinburgh), Museum of Contemporary Art, (Chicago), Neue Nationalgalerie (Berlin), Vienna Secession, Palazzo Grassi (Venice). Stingel’s work was included in the 45th Venice Biennale, 50th Venice Biennale, 2006 Whitney Biennial and is held in collections of the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space (Miami), Museum of Modern Art (New York), François Pinault Collection, among others.
