This exclusive edition, realized by the English publisher HENI in 2018, is an example of Richter’s photorealistic painting. All that can be seen of the Waldhaus, the famous hotel in Sils-Maria, is a thin strip of the façade. Richter is essentially rekindling traditional landscape painting by presenting the viewer with the simple beauty of the Alps of Graubünden.
Gerhard Richter (born 1932 in Dresden) counts as one of the greatest living artists worldwide. In the course of a career spanning sixty years he has built up a benchmark oeuvre whose thematic and stylistic range is unparalleled in contemporary painting. Characteristic of his work are not just abstract paintings, but also figurative works such as landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits, many of them based on photos.
