Thank you.\n\nThe celebrated contemporary US artist Wade Guyton (born 1972) works with scanners and printers in place of paintbrushes and paint. The motifs that he designs on the computer are transferred via large inkjet printers onto canvas—a support for which printers are not designed. Unforeseeable “errors” consequently occur during printing, which arise out of the incompatibility of material and machine. These may take the form of errant ink smears or visible interruptions during the printing process. The X sign and the color black are thereby characteristic of Guyton’s work.
The Fondation Beyeler devoted a room to Wade Guyton as part of its winter 2015/2016 Black Sun exhibition. One of the Untitled X paintings shown on that occasion served as the basis for the edition presented here, which was published in 2013 and consists of a full-scale reproduction of the original painting.
